Hussain Sajwani Became a Business Owner After All

Hussain Sajwani is regarded as one of the leading real estate businessmen in the world. He owns DAMAC, a Dubai real estate development company that has built apartments, hotels, and resorts, primarily in Dubai that rival any similar properties in the world. He did not always aspire to such heights, however.

Sajwani relishes his experience when he was still in school because he had to work long hours for his father in the family business. Here he learned that working hard produced good results, even though he thought that he might want to become a professional when he grew up so he could work a normal work schedule.

He won a scholarship to the University of Washington in the United States and graduated with degrees in Economics and Engineering. He then returned to Dubai where he worked for a local gas company.

His true entrepreneurial spirit surfaced when he formed a catering company that sold food the United States Army during the Gulf Wars as well as other American construction companies, such as Bechtel. The venture was extremely successful and is still going strong. In 2002 he formed DAMAC as he anticipated an influx of foreigners due to a relaxation of immigration restrictions by the UAE government.

His early prognostication was correct as there was a very large need for housing as a result of many people moving to the area. His mastery of promotion and marketing soon put the DAMAC name in a very recognizable position. His first real estate apartment project was a resounding success, largely due to the quality of work and the demand that he created with his marketing activities.

He used catchy slogans and eye-catching ads to promote his apartments such as, “A Bently for Each Apartment,” and soon everyone wanted to buy from Damac. The public loved his lush apartments with their luxurious appointments and spacious accommodations. He has partnered with Donald Trump by installing Tiger Woods-designed Trump golf courses at a few of his more prominent resorts.

Sajwani’s conservative business tactics of paying cash for the land and financing very little of the rest has paid huge dividends. To date, DAMAC has completed over 19,000 apartments with over 44,000 projects that are in various stages of completion. Hussain Sajwani has accomplished what few have in their lifetime and he has bettered the lives of countless numbers of people in his home country and abroad.
